Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects the lining of the lungs, abdomen, heart, or testicles. It is primarily caused by exposure to asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral used in various industries for its heat resistance and insulating properties. Asbestos fibers are microscopic and can be inhaled or ingested, leading to their accumulation in the body's tissues. Over time, these fibers cause inflammation, DNA damage, and scarring, ultimately leading to the development of mesothelioma.

Asbestos exposure commonly occurs in occupational settings, including construction, shipbuilding, mining, and insulation work. Asbestos exposure in these occupations can be caused by direct contact with asbestos materials, or inhalation of asbestos fibers in the air.

Apart from occupational exposure, mesothelioma can also occur due to secondary exposure. This can happen when individuals come into contact with asbestos fibers through the clothing or skin of a family member who works with asbestos or lives in an asbestos-contaminated environment.
